Sheffield-based writer and educator Désirée Reynolds spent 2021 as Sheffield City Archives’ Writer in Residence. During her residency, she launched the project Dig Where You Stand, exploring stories of Black and marginalised people held in the city's archives. The project also questioned how the archive can become a space for social justice.
Back in March, the Samuel Worth Chapel within Sheffield General Cemetery hosted an exhibition featuring some of the stories that Désirée uncovered. This November, the venue is hosting the exhibition once again – this time with new soundscapes by Désirée and former Sheffield Poet Laureate Otis Mensah.
On 12 November, join Désirée Reynolds, Otis, and Sheffield City Archives' senior archivist Cheryl Bailey at the Samuel Worth Chapel. They'll welcome you to the exhibition and discuss their experience of discovering Black and marginalised voices in the archives. Dig Where You Stand is a movement, go discover your archives today.
The bar will be open serving hot and cold drinks, wine, beer and snacks.
