Led by Nick Gold of Buena Vista Social Club, Orchestra Baobab are an institution of African music. More than 50 years on from their formation at Dakar’s Baobab Club, the group’s mix of Afro-Cuban rhythms, Wolof griot traditions, mbalax, Congolese rumba and jazz, sounds as fresh as ever.
Described as West Africa’s most iconic dance band, they became one of the dominant African bands of the 1970s, recording 20 albums before their breakup in 1987. A reformation in 2001 has seen them continue to release new music and tour across the world. They’ll be performing in support of their new album, Made In Senegal which they describe as a love letter to their home country.
