In 2018 it was 100 years since women won the vote in the UK. As part of the Suffrage 100 celebrations, artist Chloë Brown made a film highlighting Sheffield’s involvement in the movement, recognising the suffragettes as an important part of the city’s protesting history. A Soft Rebellion in Paradise was shot by an all-female crew in Paradise Square with a cast of 200 Sheffield women and featured words from poet Geraldine Monk. Following a screening of the film that creatively encapsulates the raw power of radical women, Brown and Monk will discuss the project. Monk will also present some poetry.
